Gdańsk Wrzeszcz is a railway station in Gdańsk, Poland. The station is localised in the Wrzeszcz quarter of the city.
Contents |
The station operates two platforms, of which one is operating as the SKM stop Gdańsk Wrzeszcz. Access to the platforms is made through two underground passages. The ticket offices are open all day. Public access to the station is easiest by car and taxi via Dmowskiego St. or by city bus (the train station is adjacent to the Wrzeszcz bus terminus). City tram lines running through Wrzeszcz are a five-minute walk away.
The current station, which was built at Dmowskiego St. 1A in the 1970s, is a typical example of socialist public architecture - a block of concrete. Located inside are - among others - the ticket offices, a bakery and several press outlets. The building and its surroundings (small shops, kiosks, and the Wrzeszcz bus terminus) are - taken together - rather unattractive, and PKP, which has more serious problems to cope with than station aesthetics, has no plans to address the situation in the foreseeable future.
The old red brick station building can still be seen near the bus stops, where it has been converted to residential flats. A very similar station building is still operational at the Gdańsk Oliwa station.
